Ruby Hill Bike Park Design

At 7.5 acres, Ruby Hill Bike Park is one of the largest municipal bike parks in North America. For this Design project, we developed a master plan that incorporates a 2+ mile long loop trail, pump tracks, flow trail zone, skill development zone, drop zone, four slopestyle lines, and a dirt jump zone providing lines of varying difficulty from beginner to advanced. A small and large pump track provide opportunities for all ages and skill levels, from small children with pedal-less bikes to seasoned adult riders. A skills course develops riders on a variety of features designed to improve balance and bike handling, while a 1.7 mile natural surface loop trail around its perimeter is fit for mountain biking.

Ruby Hill isn’t your normal bike park, either. It’s an old landfill, capped long ago and useless for commercial development. Thanks to organization and the rise of municipal bike parks, however, this seemingly wasted space is now a full-scale bike park with service for over 2.9 million Denver residents. It’s part of an even larger plan to incorporate the bike park with walking trails, playgrounds and outdoor amphitheater. What used to be an eyesore of the Denver skyline is rapidly evolving into Denver’s newest and most innovative parks and rec attraction for not only Denver residents, but biking enthusiasts nationwide.
